Eyeconoclast

1. Greetings, Elder! How are you lately? Hope you're ready to give Tempest Music readers some details on your band.
Hi there! I'm fine! Of course I'll try to :)

2. Eyeconoclast is a words game. Who thought of it? Does it have any special meaning for you?
Allright, i can exactly remember that Synder had the idea of the monicker when he was drunk. It's a word game with a special connection between the sight (EYE) and being an iconoclast..so combined the whole words mean someone who looks beyond to really see if there's symbols and structures made of nothing or made of some sick principles..in this case, being a real observer,he who see can look in the eyes the system failure and fix or annihilate it.

3. From 15 December 2002 you started building the team for this band. How was it back then? Who were the members in your first line-up? Was it hard to gather them all together?
Finding people which really has the will to start and continue a musical project like ours is very hard. The first lineup gathered persons that didn't give much priority in their life to music, and so we faced several problems such as organizing reharsals, GIGS and so on.. Even the entire songwriting process was very hard at first. In this period I often took the entire songwriting load on my back, and that often resulted on not really complex or well structured songs. We quickly felt the need to have a stable lineup made of people which really gives the right attention to Eyeconoclast.

4. "Cursors" is your firstrelease. Was it an EP, a MCD or a Demo CD? When was it released and what can you tell us about it?
Cursors was a demoCd recorded in 2003. It's only a bit more than a garage record, we realized it with home equipment and it was recorded and mixed in 2 days!! We are still very proud of it, because Cursors was our first official release. Eyeconoclast trademark was forging in these songs, and it granted us a bit success in the roman underground scene! We started our live activity soon after the release of this demoCD.

5. The second release is "Binary Encoded Sunset" and I have no other info on that either. Can you bring some light on it?
Our first professional recorded production, "Binary Encoded Sunset" summarizes the work of the first 18 months of life of Eyeconoclast. A lot of clean vocals were added by Synder, and the band reached a stable lineup before recording it. It featured our first song "Souls of the void" that reflects our death metal influences of the first period. I think that we we will try to re-introduce Souls-of-the-void mood in some of the songs that we will record in future. I really appreciated it :).

6. After the release of that promo CD you had the chance to open for Dismember. How did it happen and how was it? What memories do you have from that concert?
"Binary Encoded Sunset" received a lot of top demos and good reviews by metal zines and gave us the possibility to be the opening-act band for Dismember here in Italy. We were simply contacted by the promoters of the event that asked us to partecipate after hearing our work!!! We really enjoyed the show, people was really excited during our exhibition, even if almost of them never heard us. At the end of the show everybody was asked us how to get our release, i remember that i started to give "Binary Encoded Sunset" copies by throwing them from the stage and everybody was screaming for it. Really exciting!!

7. During the years you had a lot of line-up changes. Did that affect the band's composing process a lot? Who is in the band's line-up at the moment? Please tell us some words on each of you, what are you doing beside the band?
Sure, I can absolutely say that only after Saul joined Eyeconoclast the songwriting process gained in quality. He has a lot of great ideas and a style a bit different than mine. I think that you can recognise "my hands" in the songs for all the rocknrollin', thrashing, and melodic parts. Saul writes a lot of guitar harmonizations and he often has the "technical touch" for the guitar parts. Together we work in the songstructure work, often changing the whole structure of everything before getting satisfied. Synder is the responsibile of every lyric.

8. Your latest release is "Clustered Dead Ending Corridors". Where was it recorded? Are you proud of the final result?
It was recorded by Saul itself in his "16th Cellar Studios". His skill as a audio tech. gave Eyeconoclast the right sound that needed. I'm very satisfied of it, it 100% represents our work done until now.

9. In my oppinion you are very influenced by the actual melodic/technical death metal scene started by such bands like In Flames or At The Gates. How would you characterize your musical genre?
Eyeconoclast project was started by me and Synder in the winter of 2003. The initial idea was to create a sound mixing different styles like old & modern swedish death metal and U.S.A. death and thrash metal with a personal touch. In the first reharsal period Synder never tried to work on clean vocals, which where added later, almost 6 months after. I can easily add The Crown and Malevolent Creation and a lot of 80's metal that I personally enjoy to the influences you have said; so Eyeconoclast is a mix of all this stuff. I think that "melodic death thrash metal" represents us.

10. It seems your lyrics are more on a SF base. Am I right? Who writes 'em and what are they about?
Synder: i write the lyrics ispired by the metaphoric combination with my personal state of mind and the ever evolving technology so my thinkings and feelings can be morphed into Dyodes(ujst to make an example on our lyrics eheh) add to this i like to confron the relation between human kind and it's frailties and technology with it's dangers.

11. How have you promoted your latest release? Do you get the chance to play live a lot?
Yes, we sent our work worldwide and we gained a lot of excellent feedbacks as you can read from our webpage! I have sent the cd and the promo material to a selection staff for a big summer festival in germany with crossed fingers! I hope that they will give us the opprtunity to play in this great event..

12. You're now signed to Necrotorture Agency as a management. How are things going now?
We received big help from Alex (wich also we know as the singer of the killer death metal band Hour Of Penance), due to many organization problems (not helped by the situation here in Italy based not on talent but on "The More Ya Play - The More Ya Play ) finally we can handle some practical problems without many of the stress occurred before signing with Necrotorture..so hoping that our product can be spread the more possiible we cross our fingers waiting labels or promoters interested in our sound..in our work

13. What are your expectations from this CD? Any labels showing interest in signing you for a debut album?
People from "Edel" label contacted us for partecipating to an online compilation on I-Tunes called "I-ndipendente 2005". We have just signed the contract for this compilation, i think that it is a great occasion to spread our music worldwide. I hope that we will reach a contract for a full lenght release!

14. Do you have any new tracks composed? Which one will be the musical direction for Eyeconoclast for the next year?
Yes we are currently working on new stuff, and I can easily say that we are continuing the path started with "Clustered Dead Ending Corridors". I think that we will record a new song and put it online on our webpage as soon as possible, so stay tuned :)

15. Thanks for your answers. The concluding words are yours.
